FAQ's

What kind of situations do we ask about?

The inquiries were designed to gain insights into your natural tendencies when given a simple, preference type choice, not one that is driven by external factors.

How does it work?

Data derived from others that have completed this process have been analyzed and interpreted to create profiles.

What will I get from completing this?

You will get a summary that is a thumbnail sketch of your primary personality type. It can be useful in helping to determine how much you would enjoy various employment opportunities while showing you how you best interact with the world around you in a natural way for you. That is not to say that you are limited to only this type! Your primary type is not the only area that defines you as a person. Through hard work and experience many go beyond their natural talents and do very well in areas that are not instinctive to them. The summary should be considered an insight and should not be used as the sole basis for employment choices. Additionally, if you are an employer, it may help you find balance in your staff or help you determine which positions can be complementary to your own strengths and/or weaknesses thus creating a better work environment for all parties involved.

What do we look at?

The areas that are explored include one’s social aspect, how much of a “take charge” person you are, how important actual facts and figures are to you and how you view value relative to actual cost..
These factors, when viewed in combination, can offer you suggestions as to the type of work you would find naturally rewarding. Additionally, suggestions may be included as to which areas may be worked on to enhance your effectiveness.

What kind of results can I expect to find?

We all have natural talents that make us good in certain areas as well as areas that seem to be more difficult. This report will help to identify your natural strengths which we refer to as your superpower. Additionally, you may choose to explore weaknesses. That is totally up to you!
Overcoming weaknesses is often the primary goal in any kind of personal development program. However, we have found that it is more challenging to attack them first. Our approach is different. Strengths first, weaknesses second but only if you choose to continue.

What do you mean by “superpower?”

Your superpower is your core strength. It’s the aspect of yourself that you likely take pride in. It’s your “go to”.  When everything is crumbling around you it is the anchor that helps you get through it.

So what is the purpose of this process?

Essentially it is a three part process: discovery, enhancement through learning and then leveraging it or as it is in our name: 3UYS – Uncover, Understand and Utilize Your Superpower. Once your superpower is identified, we will offer you ways to further develop what already comes pretty natural to you. Then, with your enhanced superpower as your foundation, we will offer you ideas that will help you find better ways to overcome any weaknesses you feel are worth tackling.

What will it show me?

We have identified seven primary types: Relatables, Persuaders, Thinkers, Leaders, Chameleons, taskMasters and Dealers. There are sub categories within each group.

Essentially we look at how you influence the world around you naturally.

Persuaders and Leaders guide and motivate individuals or groups.
Relatables deal with others in an emotional way.

Thinkers are analytical and logical.
Chameleons adapt with ease.
TaskMasters are project managers
Dealers evaluate in terms of dollars and cents.

One type is normally your primary while any or all the others could be secondary.

How will this benefit me?

Self awareness is always a good thing. Realizing that we interact with others in a particular way that isn’t always in sync with other personalities can help smooth out some otherwise difficult situations. Imagine being at a conference where everyone spoke a different language. Not much would get done. Our interactions with others can often be like that. Our point of view and the way we think is often different from someone else and unless one party adapts to the other’s or we may come to an impasse unless we can find common ground. 3UYS can not only bring you self insight but also give you a glimpse into the way others think.

Is it effective?

It can be. Our egos often pose a roadblock to our growth by subconsciously undermining change. That is why our process is a strengths first focus. We have discovered we get less resistance from people’s egos working this way. Often people subconsciously  feel that accepting an externally provided change means that we have to admit to ourselves that we’ve been doing something wrong or that someone else might know more than we do. By not challenging one’s ego, you as a participant can see a tangible and relatively easy improvement in your strengths. That can lead to being empowered to use your superpower as an effective tool, applying it to the more challenging adjustments needed when focusing on a self-perceived weakness
You can build off your superpower in ways that make sense to you as a unique individual.

Runner Roger Banister’s four minute mile was thought to be impossible, until it wasn’t. Now it’s commonplace among great runners. Regardless of what you do, even if you do it well, you CAN do it better.

How did this come about?

Our developer worked for a business to business sales company for many years. Noticing that there was a quick turnover in employees we felt there was a problem. Some individuals that we thought would do well did, while some did not. We realized that we had only one way of training that was based on a model and we may need to adjust. After looking around the sales floor it was clear that we had several different types of salespeople. The thought occurred that if we could tweak the training to different personality types we could be more effective. The next step was to identify the various types. The strategy then became creating a “test” to help categorize the staff. After many months of trial and error we came up with a group of questions that seemed to work. From there the work became finding a way of evaluating the answers so they would point in the right direction. Again there was a lot of trial, error and adjustments. Eventually it looked like the results were coming out accurately. More extensive testing indicated that others from different departments were able to get useful information as to why some enjoyed their jobs more than others.

We called the process Uncovering Your Superpower (UYS) to make the results very positive while still being accurate. We have learned over the years that one’s ego can be a force for good and evil. At its best, it can make you driven and successful. At its worst, it will allow you to defend and repeat detrimental behavior by allowing you to justify anything, even tendencies that don’t work.  This is extremely common.

The 3UYS process identifies something you probably already know about yourself and by independently verifying it, it gives that positivity even more validity. By starting out the process on the ‘right foot’ the next steps become easier and more likely to succeed. Our early results have been clear: 3UYS can make a meaningful difference.
